Friends of Waldorf Education - Federal volunteer service Incoming Program in Germany 2018 (Funded)

The Incoming program is designed for motivated, socially committed women and men of 18 years and up whose permanent residence is outside Germany .
Are you interested in helping people with special needs? Would you like to spend 12 months living and working in a foreign country, experiencing a new culture and getting to know the mindset, work ethic and social structure of Germany? If so, you are heartily invited to acquaint yourself with Incoming on the next few pages!
The Federal Volunteer Service (in German: Bundesfreiwilligendienst – BFD) is a special voluntary program initiated by the German government, which started in July 2011.

Requirements:
You must
be at least 18 years old (there is no maximum age).
have permanent residency outside Germany.
be socially motivated and show dedication to your work or engagement.
know at least the basics of the German language. For those working in the fields of curative education (children with disabilities) and senior care (homes for the elderly), a good to excellent knowledge of German is a must. If at all possible, you should provide a certification of your studies or other official proof of your German language skills. It also expected that you be prepared to improve your German during the duration of your voluntary service.
have already gathered practical experience in working with people with special needs or with the elderly. Should you not have this experience, you will be required to carry out a 2-week internship or training program at a qualifying institution in your home country. The Friends of Waldorf Education will be happy to assist you in making contact with organisations that fulfil these criteria.
be prepared to work for 12 months in a full-time capacity. Shorter terms of service are not possible.
be entirely open to living together with the residents and patients of an institution for curative therapy (children with disabilities), social therapy (adults with disabilities) or a home for the elderly.
be eager for personal development and be ready to integrate yourself fully in a new culture and work environment.
show initiative and a strong sense of social engagement, as these fields of work will, at least in part, be quite demanding. Additionally, most of the institutions are located in rural agrarian areas.

Financing
Before and during the period of service, volunteers receive the following benefits:
Support with visa application (official invitation) prior to service
An allowance of at least 150 euros per month during the duration of the service
Free room and board while in Germany
Free health, accident and liability insurance
Contractually regulated holidays
Educational and administrative backing and support through the Friends of Waldorf Education during the voluntary service
20 accompanying seminar days, free of charge, at the beginning, during and at the close of the voluntary service, as well as transportation costs to and from the seminars

Travel costs to and from Germany must be covered by the participants themselves!

Applicants from Brazil and South Africa can receive support, advice and preparatory assistance from their local Friends of Waldorf Education.
The volunteers themselves are expected to pay for a possible preparatory seminar in the volunteers’ home country, according to a solidarity cost model.

Preparatory Internship
An internship of at least two week’s duration is the most important preparation for your voluntary service in Germany.
This practical work experience will help you find out, if you have the right motivation to work in a social field.
As a fringe benefit, you will ease into your life in Germany a little better, if you have the head-start of knowing your field of work.
That way, not every aspect of your ‘new life’ (e. g. culture, language, etc.) will be foreign to you.
If you haven’t completed your internship yet, you may nevertheless apply. However, you should substantiate how you plan to go ahead in order to find a suitable internship. You’ll find more detailed information on the mandatory internship on our application form. Should the Friends have a partner organization in your home country, we urge you to apply for an internship there. We’ll be happy to help you, and provide you with the contact details of any affiliated institution you would like to apply to.

Application deadline and beginning your service
People of all nations are invited to apply for voluntary service in Germany sponsored by the Friends of Waldorf Education.
Most volunteers (approx. 75 people) will begin their service in August/September . Another group of approx. 50 volunteers will begin in February.
Deadline for applications for the August/September start date is normally in mid-March. However, more than half the available positions are typically filled by January. Applicants from countries that do not require a visa (European Union, Japan, Korea, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Israel) may submit their applications until mid-July to the Friends of Waldorf Education.
Deadline for applications for the February start date is the end of July of the year preceding the planned volunteer service. Applicants from countries that do not require a visa may submit their applications until the beginning of October to the
Friends of Waldorf Education.
PLEASE NOTE : If a volunteer withdraws from the program during the 8 weeks prior to beginning or during the first four weeks of voluntary service, he or she is required to pay 150 euros to cover costs already paid on his or her part by the Friends of Waldorf Education.

In 500 words or less, demonstrate your knowledge of Africa and explain your deep

already in development. The Grand Prize essay will win a scholarship for one full

Eligibilty:

The Africa Food Prize can be awarded 

to any individual or identifiable group 

of individuals, as well as to established

institutions, associations, organizations 

or government bodies with a formal and 

recognized judicial and organizational 

structure contributing to the overall 

objectives of the Prize.The Prize can be awarded to any qualified 

candidate, irrespective of nationality, 

profession or location, whose work, and 

contributions deriving from the work, has 

had a clear impact on the African situation, 

nationally, regionally or for the continent.

The Prize can be awarded with reference to 

a specific contribution or achievement, or

a series of efforts and results in the recent 

past, preferably within the last few years.

Nomination and Selection

The nomination process for the Africa Food 

Prize 2017 starts with nominations being 

sent to the Africa Food Prize Secretariat by 

Monday, 5th June, 2017. Nominations must 

contain the information requested in the 

Nomination Guide.

The Africa Food Prize Secretariat then 

assists the Africa Food Prize Committee to 

screen and select candidates.

The Africa Food Prize Committee chooses 

the prize winner by unanimous vote. The 

Committee has absolute authority and its 

decisions cannot be overruled or appealed.

Contribution to reducing poverty and 

hunger and/or improving food and 

nutrition security in measurable terms.

SELECTION criteria

• Contribution to providing a vital source of 

income and/or employment in measurable 

terms

• Potential for transformative change

APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process has two stages.

The first stage involves submission of an online initial application (Concept Note) – a concise summary of your business idea. The Initial Application template and Guidance Notes are available once you register.

The 2017/2018 competition will follow an online ‘rolling’ format. It will be open throughout the year with applications submitted and evaluated periodically. The fourth and final call for applications is now open and will close on 31 January 2018.

Submitted applications will be reviewed for eligibility and against the selection criteria. Unsuccessful applicants will be able to refine and resubmit their applications subsequently, along with new entrants in the competition. The new model of competition will allow applicants to submit high quality business ideas due to the continuous feedback.

In the second stage of the application process, the shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a full business plan proposal.  

At this point, the applicant will be required to provide more detailed information on the proposed project, including financial, business performance and development impact projections. The Mastercard Foundation Fund for Rural Prosperity team will be available to provide guidance at this stage. It is possible that applicants will be invited to present business plans in person to the Fund's Selection Committee.

United Nations Global Compact Summer Internship program 2018 – USA

The United Nations Global Compact offers internship opportunities to recent graduates from all over the world in its New York office. 

The UN Global Compact offers internship opportunities in its New York office. The UN Global Compact pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and other collective action in support of UN goals.

Duties

Depending on their level of experience and training, UN Global Compact interns will:

• conduct research relating to the topic of corporate citizenship, especially on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption;
• draft and edit publications, papers and other documents;
• liaise with Global Compact stakeholders on key corporate citizenship topics;
• support the organization of meetings and events;
• assist with outreach activities;
• handle email and other inquiries;
• assist in the implementation of the Global Compact’s integrity measures;
• perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Duration and Period

Internships with the UN Global Compact are available for a duration of three to six months. The timing of internships is flexible. We encourage candidates to apply for the following sessions:

• Summer / Fall: August to November (with a possible extension to December)

Please note that internships at UN Headquarters are unpaid. Interns must therefore be able to cover their costs of travel, accommodation, as well as living expenses during the internship period.

• Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme (bachelors or second university degree, or higher) at the time of application and during the internship; or
• Under some circumstances, applicants may have graduated within less than one year to commence a UN internship.

Young Scientists Programme 2018 for Young Researcher Worldwide - IRDR

Now the 3rd batch has opened up for application. Young researchers are encouraged to apply for IRDR Young Scientists from now.
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) calls for enhanced role of science and technology for evidence based decision-making. It also urges the need for innovation and partnership, which is linked to practise and diverse stakeholders. IRDR, with its mandate for integrated and trans-disciplinary research, would like to promote capacity building of young professionals, and encourage them to undertake innovative and needs based research which makes science-policy and science-practice linkages stronger.

Objectives
Increase awareness among young scientists about Sendai Framework implementation and provide opportunities for further engagement through the Young Scientists Program on DRR.
Collate existing research knowledge on DRR and identify research gaps and priorities in relation to the Sendai Framework Priorities for Action
Identify opportunities to fund continued multi-disciplinary research by young scientists and early career researchers
Provide technical support to promising young researchers in DRR fields
Build and foster strong and dynamic networks among worldwide experts and institutions in DRR fields
Develop, over time, a community of high-quality young professionals that can provide support for policy making decisions related to DRR


Eligibility
To be an IRDR Young Scientist, following are the necessary criteria:
Age: Less than 40 years on the date of application
Nationality: There is no bar on nationality
Affiliation: The candidate needs to be affiliated with an academic program (either master or doctorate) either as a student or as a young faculty.
Research subject: The subject of research needs to be related to disaster risk reduction and its link to broader environment and development issues.
Endorsement: must be endorsed by academic supervisor (for student) or head of the department /graduate school (for the young faculties).
Duration: Minimum 1 year, and maximum 3 years. The applicant can make their choice, and the final decision will be made by IRDR.

Programme benefits
Once selected, as fellow can be an “IRDR Young Scientist” for a period of maximum three years. The fellow will receive the following benefits:
Link to IRDR network of professionals and practitioners
Access to IRDR Scientific Committee (SC) for academic support / advice
Participation in IRDR related training programs (there would be a different selection process for each of the training program)
A certificate for IRDR Young Scientist upon successful completion
Responsibility of IRDR Young Scientists
Contribute to innovative research in the field of disaster risk reduction
Be the ambassador of IRDR in different conferences and/or social media
Develop and contribute to networking of young professionals
Submit a 6-month report of activities in the prescribed format of IRDR
Acknowledge the contribution of IRDR in the academic paper, thesis etc.

The NEF 2018 Africa Energy Innovation Competiton is set to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. Across Africa, the main energy challenge is to rapidly deliver modern energy services to millions of households and businesses using sustainable and affordable energy technologies. This competition challenges early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries to develop a prototype model of a key device/equipment for a social energy enterprise or energy management system using local resources.

Competition Guidelines
Your proposed prototype model submission must not exceed 1-side of an A4 page and should include the following:
Project Title
Your solution (250 words)
Partner Institution or Industry
Expected impact (50 words)
Short abstract (50 words)
Design tools and method (50 words)
Problem Statement (50 words)

Eligibility requirements:
Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate in the competition and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization.
Applications may be submitted by a team of up to three people.
At least 1 member of the team must be from the local research institution or industry.
Teams may be formed across different schools, institutions, companies, countries etc. Individuals or teams may submit multiple applications.

Prizes:
The finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of academics and experienced development professionals from public and private sector institutions. Winners of the competition get the opportunity to:
Pitch their proposed prototype model at the 2018 Nigeria Energy Forum, in Lagos, Nigeria, using a poster and short video.
Benefit from unique networking opportunities with other young leaders as well as some of the most senior decision-makers in government, international development, academia and the private sector.
Attend a range of business development workshops, receive support from a dedicated start-up incubator and a cash prize of up to $3,000 to demonstrate the proposed solution.
